About Shannon
I have always had a love of learning about all things health related and sharing the information that I learn with those that ask about it. I learned to become my own advocate through years of personal research related to thyroid and autoimmune conditions. Sharing information with like-minded people has opened my eyes more times than I can count in my life and is what led me into becoming a Health and Wellness Coach. I want to walk alongside people that see change as an adventure they are ready to embark on, to become not only healthier but also happier. I truly believe that when we know we have a partner and advocate in our corner while trying to make a small or big change in our lives, this becomes the gamechanger in leading to long-term success.
We often dismiss our own health needs while taking care of others. It is important to me to share resources and relevant information with clients to help them to see their whole health. Whole health includes many aspects of well-being, not only the physical aspect that most people automatically think of. To gain a better understanding of whole health the client will explore the physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, financial and environmental aspects of their lives in order to make the changes they desire.
Career Background
I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. I have had career paths in many different professions; social work case worker, middle and high school teacher, massage therapist, and an analyst in the Federal government.
As you can see from my career paths, I believe in always learning and stepping into something new, even if it’s out of the social norm. I have been through many life transitions and can relate to all who I serve with personal experiences and listening. I am now living in my most focused era, but even that can seem like a struggle sometimes. I feel like my life has been a rollercoaster of adventure, excitement, fear, and challenge. But the big picture is still really bright and I am gracefully enjoying the ride. As far as we know, we get one time at this thing called life, so making the most out each day is a huge goal of mine.
Personal Background
I am a woman, mother, wife, and someone who believes each day I get to wake up is a gift. I have lived in Southern Maryland since I graduated from college and soon after married my husband. We have two amazing daughters, and we have truly enjoyed watching them grow into strong and independent humans. Living in Maryland we love the access both to the mountains and the beach within a few hours, along with cities like D.C. and Baltimore. I love being outside in nature as much as possible. When I am not working, you’ll find me hiking trails, camping, kayaking, paddleboarding, road biking, surfing, traveling to concerts and reading.
Why did I choose Health Coaching?
So why did I choose to add Health and Wellness Coaching to my running resume? My thirst for knowledge has always seemed to focus on health-related topics, from how important movement is especially as we age, to foods that help us heal ourselves, how to help ourselves with chronic illnesses and so much more. The library of books and podcasts and the like just keep growing, and those around me always know if they want to dive deep into a mind, body, spirit rabbit hole, I have always been game to share knowledge and also to learn from their experiences and knowledge.
Moving into the Health and Wellness Coach world has allowed me to continue to be a lifelong learner. To be able to listen to others life experiences and reflect back any wisdom and resources that I have in my toolbox to offer. Sharing in people’s lives, the accomplishments, the struggles and everything in between has always brought me so much joy. Getting to now have a certification to be able to offer even more to those who are asking is beyond a blessing in my eyes.
